Stay with Us - La Casa Lavanda

Approached through grand iron gates and along a stone wall and tree lined sweeping drive, the imposing and elegant Villa Oleandro gives a more than promising first impression. Perched half way up a hillside, in our olive grove among groves, we offer the discerning traveller a restful haven of relaxing tranquillity hard to come by in this modern day world.

Yet the rest of the world is not so far away. The beach at Calenella Bay is 3 km from us and Vico del Gargano is a mere 10 minutes away by car. Here the fresh fruit and vegetable market is a marvel of choice and colour and the indoor fresh fish market a revelation and education. The excellent local butchers, bakers and mini supermarkets complete the food supply options and then, of course, there are numerous Pizzeria’s and restaurants in which to savour the local cuisine. San Menaio (15 mins), Rodi Garganico and Peschici (20 mins), and a little further afield Vieste and Mattinata offer a further plethora of options.

Furnished and equipped to a very high standard La Casa Lavanda is an exclusive self-catering apartment attached to Villa Oleandro. Sleeping up to three guests it is light and airy and has a large fully fitted kitchen, romantic double bedroom with four-poster bed, charming dressing room, excellent shower room and a comfortable living room with desk and sofa bed. All doors and windows are fitted with fly screens, not only against flies but also against our curious and friendly cats and dogs, and for out of season visitors there is a wood burning stove.

The living room has large picture window doors that open onto the upper terrace with its all-day sunshine and fabulous views over the olive filled valley to the Adriatic Sea at Calenella Bay. Immediately outside the apartment is a marble topped table that enjoys sunshine at breakfast, shade at lunchtime and full sun from late afternoon. The terrace is also furnished with table and chairs set under the vines, sunbeds and easy chairs, and close by there is La Casa Lavanda’s very own barbecue.

Guests are welcome to use the swimming pool which is only about 1.4 meters deep, with no shallow/deep end; more sunbeds are provided on the pool terrace. Middle Earth terrace offers further lounging options in sunshine or shade.

In the light and airy living room a DVD/CD player and a selection of games and books are provided. Guests are also welcome to borrow from our personal book, CD and DVD libraries. There is also a small sewing kit for holiday tailoring emergencies, and on the desk you'll find a USB charging point.

The vaulted bedroom is located inside the original Villa Oleandro and boasts a king size double four poster bed draped with tulle nets. Though beautiful and romantic the nets also provide protection from any stray nocturnal insect that might manage to get through the fly screens.

The dressing-room, decorated to recall its former use, was once the stable and is also situated inside the original Villa Oleandro. An unusual feature, created using a ladder once used in these very olive groves, crowns the dressing table. Ample storage ensures that you have plenty of room in which to unpack your belongings, with no shortage of clothes hangers in the wardrobe. Although there is no air-conditioning, careful ventilation management helps maintain comfortable temperatures; 2 freestanding fans are provided for your comfort.

The spacious, modern, bright kitchen is equipped with gas hob, electric oven, extractor fan, fridge-freezer, washing machine, mini-food processor, toaster, kettle, Krups epresso maker, traditional Italian coffee percolator, pasta rolling machine, dining table and chairs, a plentiful supply of cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware, iron and a selection of cookery books. In fact, everything you might need to create your very own Italian feasts. The picture window kitchen door opens onto a sheltered stone courtyard; furnished with table and chairs, the morning sunshine is filtered through a shade-sail.

The excellent shower room boasts a wonderfully spacious shower, wash basin, bidet and WC, and here you'll also find a shaver point and a hairdryer. Bedroom, bathroom, beach and kitchen linens are also provided.

In creating what we believe to be a superb self-catering apartment we have taken into account our not inconsiderable experience of holiday gites and residences both in France and Italy. The end result, we hope you will agree, makes for a wonderful carefree, enjoyable holiday in a most beautiful and unspoilt part of the world.
